Problem Solving = Value
Being great at problem solving is a highly valued skill. It has several components to it but I am going to focus on just one today.
One of the most powerful books I have ever read is “The Power of Now” by Eckart Tolle. I will share a simple concept here that illustrates how to problem solve using his concepts.
How to solve a problem- pay close attention.
Whenever you notice a pattern showing up in your life think of that as a wake up call to pay close attention.
One of the first ideas Eckart Tolle recommends to practice is to pay close attention to what ever you may be doing. Get really focused, put all your attention on the task at hand.
You will find that when you do this you will start to notice things that before you did not.
Houston, we have a problem.
I am in the business of clothing design. I use a heat press in my clothing business. I began to notice a recurring problem with the zippers on the jackets I was designing. The zippers seemed to be malfunctioning always in the same place.
At first I blamed the manufacturing. I thought, they must be using cheap materials.
Look a bit closer.
Then I started to practice focused attention. Without even being conscious of being more focused I made a startling realization. It was the way I was using the heat press I was melting the resin zippers myself!
As a result I learned something important for quality control in my business. Aside from the new discovery that resin zippers don’t like high temperatures, I also learned a new way to problem solve! Pay close attention to everything that you do!

Now- go pay attention to your business and your life 🙂 Try this for one day. Report back here in the comments section.
